i want to die,
in your arms 'cause you get lighter the more it gets dark. i'm going to give you my heart and i don't care, go on and tear me apart. and i don't care if you do. 'cause in a sky full of stars i think i see you------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | The past week or so had been pretty busy for Dani. She had a lot of work, school work, and the usual drama that laced every aspect of her life. Kurt had been more violent than usual as a result of the stress he brought home from work. The cut on her lip had finally healed, but there were new bruises where the faded ones had been. He knew better than to leave any marks where someone could actually see them, so it was usually her back, sides, and stomach that took the majority of his rage. Right now her skin was littered with blank and blue spots, but she was trying not to think too much of them as she slipped on the new dress she just bought today. It fit her nicely and felt comfortable enough for her to be able to lay around in it for a few hours. Tonight she had a date planned for Liam and herself. She'd done a whole lot of avoiding him this week because she was waiting for her marks of abuse to heal some. It wasn't fair that he only got to see the damaged parts of her so... she was trying to be better. To be complete for him, at least just once. Of course that hadn't exactly worked out the way she wanted it to, and he would see the discoloration in her skin whenever she slipped out of this dress again, but at least she wasn't on the verge of tears or pathetically drunk. Tonight she was herself and incredibly excited to have this night out with him.
After she packed her car with everything she would need for the evening, Dani drove the short distance to the park and parked her car as close to the fountain as she could. Getting everything to her favorite spot in the park would take a few trips, but she didn't mind all the walking back and forth. She wanted to have everything set up by the time Liam got there, which should have been in about a half hour or so. First she spread out the blanket some ways away from the fountain and trees, just underneath the open sky where they could see all the twinkling little starts that illuminated the sky. Next to go down were a few small flashlights that she placed on the corners of the blanket to hold it down and provide them with some more light. After that it was the basket and cooler that contained the food and drinks she'd made and bought for tonight. Dani realized that this was a whole lot of effort that had gone into a date that Liam wasn't likely to completely appreciate, but she didn't mind. Doing nice things for people was her specialty and even if he didn't completely appreciate the romantic gesture, she would make up for it. Dani was excited just to be outside, completely relaxed and content with the workings of the world while she waited cross-legged on the blanket for her true love to appear.
A few minutes of waiting in the quiet darkness should have made her uneasy, but the blonde fell onto her back and stared up at the sky as she waited. It was rare for her to be so still and quiet, but she was in one of those kinds of moods tonight it would seem. As soon as Liam showed up, it probably wouldn't take her very long to crawl into his lap and rain down affections on him. For whatever reason, tonight she really felt the need to show him just how much she loved him and how lucky she was to have him in her life. He provided her with all the safety and comfort in the world, even though sometimes he was relatively grumpy and a little lost when it came to the whole being in love thing. Regardless of all that though, she found it impossible to look at him with anything but complete adoration in her eyes. He was her best friend. The true love of her life and all she ever wanted now was to spend the rest of this life with him. And they would, she promised him that they would. She just needed a little more time. Just a little more and then they could truly be together. For now, however, they would have to make due with sharing their love in the dark. |

drag me into the light,
YOU ARE MY EARTH YOU ARE MY SUN I LOVE YOUR FINGERS I LOVE YOUR TOES THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD THE TIP OF YOUR NOSE AND YOU ARE THE REASON I'M SMILING WHEN THERE IS NOTHING TO SMILE ABOUT ONE DAY YOU WILL FIND SOMEONE WHO'LL LOVE YOU LIKE YOU DESERVE BUT UNTIL THEN I'M THE ONLY ONE - - - - - - - - - - -
| It’d been one of those weeks where Dani had unexpectedly dropped off the face of the earth. This used to bug Liam a lot, back when they’d just been friends and all. It was frustrating to have your best friend suddenly start blanking you, to lock you out and disappear. It was inconvenient, kind of rude, and there was no denying that it just… well, it stung a little. Things had changed since then, of course. And it was still inconvenient and annoying and frustrating for her to suddenly vanish, but he understood it better now that everything was out in the open. Now that he knew that the reason she kept disappearing was because of the demands on her time by her abusive boyfriend and the subsequent nursing of the injuries he left her with, his irritation had been replaced by concern. Now, whenever Dani disappeared, Liam did not get angry. No, he just worried. The last week had been a drawn out, sleepless, stressed affair wherein he’d spent all day every day checking his phone for distress calls and imagining worst case scenarios. He’d done his best to just stay out of the way. Dani was a grown woman in a delicate situation and she was just trying to handle it in the best way for her, so who was he to try and be the hero and go barging in to save her from herself? Liam was not very good at being the hero. His attempts at goodness were too clumsy, his intentions pure but his actions impulsive and stupid. He could not save her. He just had to wait, and be there when the storm had passed.
He’d spent the last week in such a state of nervous tension that when Dani had called to make plans for tonight, sounding quite chipper and enthusiastic, it’d taken him off guard. He’d agreed, of course. Because by this point he was dying to see her. Liam didn’t have a lot of friends or a lot of people that he felt comfortable talking to or able to fully relax around. In fact, it was pretty much just Dani. He got all wound up and bent out of shape without her to keep him level. He needed her. He missed her.
So the day was spent in a state of low-key anticipation. His shift at work was endless, although at least the thought of seeing Dani kept him from becoming entirely subsumed by the misery of repetitive drudgery. It also distracted him somewhat from the occasional uneasy tug at the back of his mind that kept trying to bring him back round to acknowledging the sudden reappearance of his sister. Talia turning up on his doorstep several days prior had messed with his head somewhat, dredged up thoughts and feelings and repressed memories that were better off buried. He had not fully processed what his estranged sisters reappearance meant, and he had no intentions of doing so. He was just trying to ignore it, trying to bury it, pretend it was some waking nightmare, and move on. Things would be okay. He got to see Dani tonight after a long week of absence, so he didn’t have to worry about anything else. He didn’t want to worry about anything else.
It was still light, but just barely, when he left his apartment building. Dusk. He stopped to buy flowers from the store on the corner. It was not a florist, so they were not good flowers, but he paused a moment to select the bunch with the least dead and wilting blossoms. The park was a relatively short walk from there, but he made good time. He wanted to see her so bad that there was even an element of speed to his movement, rather than his usual lazy ambling gait. It was still dark by the time he arrived, however, and he took a moment to scour the empty park in search of Dani, before finally spotting her silhouette a little off the beaten track. She seemed to have a nice little set up, with blanket and picnic basket, and Liam groaned internally. Of course she did. They’d only been together a short while, but already things were listing severely out of balance in the romantic gesture department. She was so much better at planning dates and all that couple shit than Liam was. He was just going to be a perpetual disappointment in that area. Thank fuck he’d remembered to bring her flowers, at the very least.
“Way to show me up.” He remarked lightly in lieu of greeting as he sat down beside her on the blanket. She was lying back and had been staring at the sky before he’d approached, and now he took a moment to study her prone form. It was a cautious and not entirely subtle visual check, from head to toe, looking for signs of serious injury. He saw no casts or bandages, no cuts or bruising immediately visible in the torch light, but that didn’t mean there was nothing there. He would find her damage later, most likely. He never knew how to react to her bruises. Should he ignore them? Pretend that they weren’t there, in much the same way that he pretended her boyfriend didn’t exist? That way, they could just be together without the looming spectre of Kurt in the background. Or should he kiss those bruises? Laud them as badges of honour, of symbols of her bravery, make it known that she was beautiful despite them? Or would that seem to suggest that he condoned this, that he was proud of her ability to take a beating? That wasn’t a message he wanted to communicate either. “Those are for you.” He said, setting the flowers unceremoniously down on the blanket between them and nudging them surreptitiously towards her hand. “Do I get points for trying?”

i want to die,
in your arms 'cause you get lighter the more it gets dark. i'm going to give you my heart and i don't care, go on and tear me apart. and i don't care if you do. 'cause in a sky full of stars i think i see you------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Staring up at the stars, Dani finally allowed herself a moment to feel some peace. All week had been pretty stressful. Being with Kurt for so long required her to put on this mask of 'perfection' that still didn't meet up to his standards, then she needed to suffer the consequences for being a disappointment. Parts of her body were still tender to the touch, but she'd learned how to resist the urge to flinch whenever she moved or someone hugged her a little too tightly. It was sad that time allowed her to develop this skills, but she couldn't risk having anyone find out the truth. That she was weak, fragile, and broken. That there was a lot of darkness over her head when all she seemed to do was radiate light and positive energy. So much sadness polluted her life it was ridiculous, but no one would ever know because she could hide it so well. Fake a smile until it felt real and she forgot about how scared and alone she truly felt. Right now, under this vast sky full of stars, she felt as if she could lose herself underneath them. That would be ideal. To just shrink away to nothing underneath the calming light of a thousand stars. Dani was tempted to see if she could accomplish such a task, so that she might live forever in this warm moment where everything was beautiful and nothing hurt... but then she remembered something. He was just a face at first, and then a name. Liam. Maybe disappearing into this moment in time would save her from a lot of grief that was to come, but she knew that she couldn't leave him behind. Not ever. He was the one person who was anchoring her to the reality because being with him made dealing with the pain seem worth it. And it wouldn't last forever... she wouldn't have to suffer for so long. All that was left for her was to brave the storm and try to make it out alive so that they could be together and live under these stars without worry. All she needed was a little more time... just a little bit longer to store up her courage before marching off to battle.
For a while there, Dani probably drifted in and out of consciousness. Her thoughts were full of fantasy with touches of reality that helped keep her from evaporating into thin air so that she might join the stars in the sky. She could have stayed there like that forever, but the reason for her existence finally made his appearance. Dani didn't have to open her eyes to know it was him. The familiar rugged voice gave him away and wrapped around her, warming every inch of her body. A small smile crept over her features but she didn't open her eyes or sit up quite yet. For a moment she stayed laying where she was. "I'm sorry. Romantic dates are kind of my thing. I'm sort of mushy that way." Her smile grew in size and her hand reached over in the general direction of where the blanket moved under his weight. Her hand found his knee, but her fingers stretched out for his hand. It had been so long since he touched her last and she needed that warm reassurance that he was actually there and that this moment was real. After everything she'd gone through this week, that was all she needed from him. The warmth from his body and the safety that his arms around her provided.
"Hm?" Almost reluctantly, Dani opened her eyes to peek up at him. He was nudging something over in her direction which forced her to finally sit up right. A huge grin spread across her face as she took the flowers in one hand, then threw both arms around his shoulders and pressed her face into the curve of his neck. A deep breath filled her lungs with the smell of him. It sent shivers down her spine and brought her closer to him. "You can have as many points as you want. I love you." Dani pressed her lips to his neck, then the underside of his jaw. For whatever reason, she was feeling especially affectionate today. Seeing him was like a breath of fresh air. Seeing him finally allowed her to breathe. "I missed you. A whole lot." After nuzzling him once more, she sat up and took his face in her hands so she could plant a firm kiss on his lips. The taste of him on her mouth was better than anything she could have ever imagined. He was perfection in her eyes. |
