With your body next to mine our hearts will beat as one----------------------
graduation was just starting to become a small dot in the rearview mirror of life. she had celebrated hard with her friends and her fiancé. sometimes she was still floored by the fact that she was actually engaged to someone. she had never really thought that anyone would be able to relax her or handle her but grett, he could. he was the complete opposite of her, always calm and collected, while she was outgoing and hyper, constantly. she could barely sit still, even now, as she sat in a meeting on her birthday—her feet were tapping and her mind was wondering. she wanted to be home with her fiancé, not in the boardroom listening to this. she had no idea what was actually being said but she just nodded along when the other men around her did. really, she was the only intern in the room and really, she had no idea why she was here. the man that was shadowing seemed extremely concerned about her being in this meeting and despite her internal wish to deny the invitation, here she was. the girl sighed as she leaned back in her chair, twirling the pencil on the desk. after what seemed like her entire shift, the meeting was over and without a word to anyone, penny was out the door and rushing back into the office. she grabbed for her coat and her purse. she darted through one of the exhibits, avoiding the areas where there was loud talking and made her way out the door in record time. ruffling her hair, the girl moved down the steps that she was usually so excited to be walking up when her day began and a little saddened when she had to descend them, but today was different. she promised grett that she would be home early and that meeting was pushing her luck with keeping that promise. sending grett a quick text as she dodged people going the opposite way of her on the sidewalk, hey! leaving now, can’t wait to spend the evening with you! xox.
the train ride seemed longer than the meeting as she sat down in a seat and pulled out some papers that she had ‘reading them would help her’ but she had been avoiding it for the longest time. she had just gotten out of the education system and was so tired of reading and highlighting, she just needed a break. and since the person beside her did not seem to want to talk, and penny got the hint, she pulled out the papers and tried to absorb what her eyes flitted open. the morning that grett had created for her had been perfect—breakfast, the correct tea and even some snuggles. it had made her not want to leave for her second favorite place in the world, but she reluctantly went to the museum and worked a partial day. work had even done a few sweet things for her birthday like a coworker giving her a cake and some nice cards but it was nothing compared to the company of her fiancé. she wanted to be by his side all day but she knew that it was not possible. her stop was announced and penny shoved everything into her bag before jumping up. her manners were momentarily forgotten as she pushed her way between the seat and her neighbours legs. she nearly tripped, grabbing onto the back of one of the seats and disrupting another person. just before she exited the train, she gave a small shout of apology to everyone before jumping the space between the doors and the platform. she was home. it was not the greatest of places to settle down but with her life going in a positive direction, grett and her were going to turn those memories around. she avoided certain areas and roads but the walk was brief from the station to her house. the house was dark and she furrowed her brows, pulling her phone out to check the time. was he not back from work? sighing, penny pulled her keys out. she really needed a tea now. turning the key and pushing the door open. just her luck that her key would get stuck as she tried to pull it out, ”grett!?”, she called, turning around just in time for the lights to sudden flick on and for her loved ones to come out of their hiding spot, scaring her. a scream came out of her lips and her hands flailed in reaction to the ”surprise” that was yelled out in unison. her mind raced along with her heart but a smile came to her lips and she shook her head, ”grett!”, she called for him again as her key slipped out of the lock, while shutting the door behind her and beginning to greet people until she got to the culprit that she had been looking for—”you are such a sneak!”, chuckling while she put a kiss to his lips and a smack to his chest.
